Compsoc, the University of Kent Computing Society, is currently being revived.
We will be holding the first Society General Meeting on Thursday 17th February 2005 at 5PM in COLT2 . New members will be able to join the society (at no charge for the remainder of this year); we will also be electing a new committee.
Currently Compsoc offers the following facilities to members:
- 250 MB of network storage
- Access to a Linux shell and desktop environment with a wide variety of software from any PC on campus
- Access to a growing collection of freely available music from campus
- Access to compsoc1, our Linux workstation in the Computing Octagon
We also offer the following services to all students and staff:
- KentIRC, an IRC network for on-campus users: a great way to keep in touch and make new friends
- Access to Mozilla Firefox, an alternative web browser to Microsoft Internet Explorer, featuring pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing
- Access to Winamp, a simple music player capable of playing MP3 and OGG format music files
- Access to mIRC and XChat, clients for gaining access to KentIRC
In the future we also intend to arrange other events, including LAN parties and other gaming events, and visits from external speakers.

Please come along to the Society General Meeting and make your mark on Compsoc. We look forward to seeing you there!
