What is KentIRC?
KentIRC is a chat / communications system - it's Kent's IRC Network. It is not an official service, but it is an official Compsoc service.
IRC is a textual communications system. Although similar in regard to AIM, or MSN, or Google Talk, IRC is a network rather than a buddy-to-buddy system. The network has multiple channels (chat rooms) and multiple users. IRC is both buddy-to-buddy (users can talk to each other via Private Messages) and buddy-to-group (users can talk to a channel - a room full of lots of people).
For example, on KentIRC, the biggest (and most used) channel is called "#cs". All channels start with the hash symbol (to denote that they are channels).
