All users get 500MB of space on the system, which is accessable via SSH/SCP/SFTP and Windows File Sharing (SMB).
Remote Access
Remote X
You can use a remote X-client to connect to compsoc1's desktop - such as Exceed (on Public PC desktops), or such as gdm/gfmflexiserver on GNU/Linux.
You can also use Compsoc-provided ThinClient machines in public rooms: there's currently one in SE105.
Remote Console Access
Compsoc1 runs an SSH server.
Remote File Server
You can access your home directory from remote by navigating to \\compsoc1 (windows) or smb://compsoc1 (linux)
IRC
Rather than using mIRC, you can use irssi or Rhapsody on compsoc1. irssi and Rhapsody are console/text-clients that you can run when connect to compsoc1 via SSH. It is recommended that you run them inside an application called "screen" which saves your session and keeps you connected.
