Events

Freshers Fair

Compsoc have a table at the Union Freshers Fair. Please see FreshersFair for details.

First Compsoc Meeting 2006/2007

• I'm guessing probably in the second week, regardless I believe its worth preparing for it. Please contribute here. (~AlexAdranghi)

• We've discussed the first SGM and I've penciled in a date of the 24th or 25th of September (~DavidBell)

Computer Science Introduction Session Talk

AllenBrooker has been in contact with Janet Carter and has got Compsoc a slot during the Computer Science introduction sessions. This means we can give a talk about Compsoc and get some more members and more interest and more people involved! From Allen:

Society Social Events

I believe the majority of officers and members wish to organise social events. So, lets get planning!

• #cs meet - These used to happen all the time but haven't happened for a while now. Lets organise another for next term!
  • Origins is the typical venue. - Dave
  • We can either have food in Origins, and then go to Origins bar or food in Origins and go to Rubberfood bar, or just directly to the bar.

• LaserQuest - TagSoc does this on a regular basis but they aren't a real society. Lets organise a trip to the local Laser Quest outlet in Canterbury, "Planet Lazer".

• Visual Evening - We can book a lecture hall and watch DVD's etc. much like all the other soc's do. Thoughts?

  • I'm guessing this is Computing related material and not like for example.. Hackers? (~AlexAdranghi)

• Console Games Tournament - If we get a room with lots of TV's, a switch and game cube's with Ethernet adaptors we can play Mario Kart Double Dash 16-player games!! Same with any other console and game.

  • Sounds good, anyone got a spare Ethernet adaptor for GC? Also I'll recommend we don't have this at stupidly late hours, but maybe for a nice evening 7 till 10 after food or something as some of us want to be sociable and have a decent sleep pattern this coming year. (~AlexAdranghi)

Society Meetings

• Officer meetings for the services upgrades and changes we want to do.
• General meetings for discussion, talks, learning etc.
• Meetings on a regular basis for the Sun Fire trial plan (this involves getting a free 60-day trial of a Sun server and reviewing it)

Gaming Events

• On-campus LAN Party
  • This has been tried before, but we should try again.

• LAN Party at the DotCafe (much like TagLAN)

• LAN Party at other external provider

Services

Electronic Voting System

We badly need an electronic voting system, both for officer votes and full motions. TimBishop has already mentioned that authentication is not a problem, an Apache htaccess / HTTP Authentication system can be easily used to only allow Kent users to login. More pressing though is only allowing officers and/or members to vote (depending on what sort of vote it is). Finally we're going to have to write the CGI which takes the HTTP variable of username, allows them to vote on a motion, and then records that.

• I don't mind don't mind writing this but I'd need TimBishop to setup the http authentication stuff somewhere on compsoc1. (DavidBell)

• New games
• Are the games being played?
• Advertise the service
• Sign the agreement for the next academic year

Application Service Overhaul
