KentIRC Network Services
KentIRC provides network-wide services. The most important of these are NickServ (for registering nicknames), ChanServ (for registering channels) and MemoServ (for sending memo's to other registered users).
For a quick start, simply send a message to one of the services with "help" or "help commands" as the message, like so:
/msg NickServ help commands
Command Reference
New Users Guide
Welcome to Network Services on KentIRC! Network services are a set of tools to make your life on KentIRC easier! Basically, Network Services offer you two major functions - protecting your username - and protecting your channel. First of all you must choose your nickname, and then register it. Once you have done this you can choose your channel, join it, and register it.
Register your NickName
First, change your nickname to your desired nickname
/nick <DesiredNickname>
Then register your nickname using the register command, like so:
/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <kent-email>
Instructions will then be sent to your e-mail address (which must be yourlogin@kent.ac.uk) on how to activate your account.
For full details of the above command, read this: Register Command
Using your NickServ Account
You can now use your NickServ account. The most often used command is "IDENTIFY". You will need to use this to login to your account when you join KentIRC. First, change your nickname (see above) to your account nickname. If you cannot do this (because somebody else has your nickname, then read below - Protecting your Account). Then, issue an identify:
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY <password>
For full details of the above command, read this: Identify Command
Protecting your Account
If somebody else has taken your nickname, Nickserv will not automatically delete that user. Instead you will have to ask NickServ to do that. Do the following:
/msg NickServ RECOVER <nickname> <password>
followed by:
/msg NickServ RELEASE <nickname> <password>
Then, you can change nickname.
(TBC).
